Long weekends are the perfect excuse to get together with your best friends, make the most of hosting a casual BBQ and of course, enjoy a tipple! To keep in line with the classic Australian summer vibe this long weekend, we have the perfect refreshment to match a simple BBQ menu or if you’re feeling a little more fancy like us, served alongside a slow-roasted lamb shoulder with lemon, garlic and rosemary marinade! While a chilled bubbles never goes a stray, we want to share our unique twist on an old favourite that we know you will love. It’s delicately refreshing with a subtle touch of citrus, the perfect addition to your long weekend and best shared with friends in the backyard. Enjoy!

The Festive season and gorgeous drops, our perfect match!

There is a certain charm about the festive season, it’s our favourite time of year! Nothing is more special than spending time with family and friends, sharing old memories and creating new ones, over delicious food and wine – of course!

Christmas is literally days away (we know, we can’t believe it either, what 2017?!) and is such a joyous, indulgent time of year loved by all. But when you’re hosting lunch… well, we understand it can get little hectic! Girlfriend, to get you clinking that glass of bubbles asap, we’ve put together a guide to matching our gorgeous drops with your Christmas feast.

Breaking the fast:

Let’s be honest you’ll be up at 5:30am, the kitchen will be chaotic and wrapping paper will be everywhere! Christmas Day should always start with bubbles and we recommend a simple breakfast that will keep you full enough to get through the morning, but starts the day with a little extra *sparkle*! Champagne and croissants = a match made in heaven. Why not keep it pretty with fresh summer berries from one of our Mornington Peninsula favourites; Sunny Ridge Strawberry Farm. Our personal favourite? The light, bright and fruity Range Life Prosecco, King Valley (VIC), which is part of our ‘All Bubbles’ 6 & 12 pack.

Simple Starters:

When curating your cheeseboard #goals, aim for different flavours and textures. Think a spiced pear paste, fresh figs, soft rich cheeses and crunchy biscuits. Delicious Binnorie Dairy dill chèvre from the Hunter Valley (NSW) & the Caprino, Romano style creamy goats cheese from Main Ridge (VIC) are on our list and marry perfectly with fresh, crisp whites. We recommend a Riverland local with citrus soul and sass… Screaming Betty. A vermentino sourced from Delinqueté Wine Co and part of our ‘Fresh Whites’ pack.

Zesty, floral whites, match perfectly with smoked salmon and cream cheese, and we have the easiest, most delicious canapé to start the festive feast; Salmon pancake wraps. Just six ingredients that you can prep the night before and leave in the fridge till serving time. These go down an absolute treat with our Gran Sasso Pinot Grigio, from Abruzzo Italy, featured in our ‘Fresh Whites’ pack.

The main delight…whatever your tradition may be!

Whether you’re more of a seafood family, or you like to keep it traditional, we’ve got the perfect drops to match whatever is on the menu! A balmy Christmas day and seafood are the dream team and if this is more your style, Manettas Seafood in Sydney deliver straight to your door. Meaning  less time spent at the market! Our perfect match? Krinklewood Wild White from Hunter Valley (NSW). This delicious drop is a biodynamic, refreshing white wine, as featured in our ‘Fresh Whites’ pack.

If you’re keeping to the classics with traditional baked ham and turkey, put your little twist on it with modern, seasonal salads. We’re drawing inspo from Hetty McKinnon’s ‘Community’ book and her salad recipes from Arthur Street Kitchen. When pairing with reds, keep it light and fruity. We suggest the Glaezter-Dixon Nouveau Pinot, Coal Valley (TAS) included in our ‘Relaxed Reds’ pack.

The sweetest finish:

We know it’s almost impossible to fathom dessert by the end, but ’tis the season for indulgence, right?! Of course there is always room for a traditional fruity plum pudding, best matched with a richer drop. Or delight your fam with something a little different with Donna Hay’s brandy-maple ice cream panettone, seriously delicious. Both sweet treats relish perfectly with Pacha Mama Shiraz from Heathcote, a medium bodied drop with an intense fruity flavour of freshly crushed raspberries and subtle oak, and part of our ‘Relaxed Reds’ pack.

If you order by December 17 (Free Aus wide metro delivery), or last minute orders by December 20 for Melbournians only, we’ll ensure to deliver by the 25th, straight to your door. So you can tick drinks off your extensive preparation list!

We’re wishing you a very Merry Christmas, spent with your loved ones, a little too much food and delicious wine!

What we’re drinking this Spring Racing Season!

Yes Way Rosé!

So the flowers have well and truly blossomed, the wintery air has gone and the festive season is literally right around the corner (Thanks Myer for reminding us with your big Christmas trees). This means it’s official, Rosé all day season is here AKA The Spring Racing Carnival… and we’re not mad about it.

With the weather warming up, we’re feeling increasingly rosier and when it comes to warm-weather drinking and Spring Racing season in Melbourne, pink is definitely the new white.

Whether your heading trackside and hosting pre drinks, or simply throwing an afternoon BBQ together with your best friends on Melbourne Cup Day with a little healthy competition betting, Rosé is the perfect (and prettiest) drop this spring racing season. We want to share with you what we’ll be drinking (Rosé this way —>)

While some race goers may think Melbourne Cup Day is a great excuse to drink like a delinquent and end up with heels in hand by the end of the day, we’re much more refined than that. This season we’ll be sipping on a cheeky ‘Delinquente Wine Co  Pretty Boy Rosato’, from Riverland, South Australia.

Grown and produced by a younger generation wine maker, this pale pink drop is  modern, with sophisticated qualities, designed for easy drinking. Produced from harvested Nero D’Avola, the famous black grape from Sicily, this pretty boy smells oh so sweet but with the “swagger of Mick Jagger” says Winemaker Greg Grigoriou. Think hints of summer berries but crisp and dry. Its fun, bright, and bubbly making it the perfect Spring Racing season drink!

We’ve done all the hard work for you, Pretty Boy Rosato is part of our Rosé feature pack – “Perfect Pinks.” This gorgeous pack features crisp, fresh and summery wines, sourced from vineyards around Australia and Italy, delivered straight to your door!

A Mornington Peninsula jewel & why we’re loving Even Keel wine!

Showcasing: Polperro by Even Keel

Is there anything better than a Sunday drive to the casual and cool Mornington Peninsula with your best gal pal? Gazing at lush greenery and abundant vineyards, with a glass of vino in hand, is our kind of heaven.

Heading south of the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s CBD in Red Hill wine country,  you’ll find amongst a tranquil landscape, Polperro Winery. The property contains a cellar door, restaurant, and a cosy place to stay the weekend. This intimate space is interiors rich, full of rustic and moody tones, creating an earthy and inviting atmosphere inspired by the Even Keel wine label, which couples perfectly a locally sourced, seasonal menu.

Even Keel Wine label and Polperro Winery owner, Sam Coverdale, has produced wines throughout Australia and internationally. His focus is on using sustainable and bio-dynamic practices and creating well-balanced wines that are easy-drinkers, with character and balance.

Sam believes that great wines are grown not made (wise words Sir!), and is passionate about creating elegant wines that continue to interest beyond the first glass, reflecting the wine region they’re made from.

Polperro Winery can be enjoyed no matter the season. During the winter months, we’ve enjoyed the cosy retreat for long lunches, a bottle of 2016 Mornington Peninsula pinot noir and the outdoor fire pits. As it heats up, we’re looking forward to balmy afternoons on the deck, a cheese board and a cheeky glass (or two) of 2016 sangiovese rosé.

The Even Keel by Polperro Rosé features in our Pretty Pinks (available in 6 & 12 packs) & rosé gift pack. This delicious drop is  handpicked, whole bunched pressed and gently made. Yay for rosé! This drop is made for summer drinking, a dry style with a hint of red berry fruits and rose, and a crisp refreshing finish. We suggest to pair it with a charcuterie plate, your best girlfriends, and a fine day. We recommend a Sunday drive to Polperro By Even Keel for an afternoon of vinos, quality service, gorgeous food & better company. We’ll cheers to that!
