5 Mornington Peninsula Winery Trips You’re DEFINITELY taking this summer

It’s easy to get caught up in the clamour and commotion of city life. Wining, dining and unwinding in Victoria’s foodie playground this summer? Now, that’s something we get around. In the name of bubbly afternoon aperitifs on The-Sound-Of-Music-esque fields of green, let’s start the ignition and tour some of the Mornington Peninsula’s most indulgent wineries.

These summer Bucket List additions are for when your Sunday Wine Co stash is bled dry, or you’ve felt inspired by a curated wine pack to trace a tipple back to the vines. (Shotty not designated driver).

Port Phillip Estate

Unlike the array of provincial wineries that pepper Shoreham Road, Port Phillip Estate marries modern, almost alien-like architecture with incredibly breathtaking views. Then comes the decadent banquets and stellar wines. Phwoar. The nihilistic, breathtaking facade leads way to a Cellar Door stocked with brilliant drops like the 2016 Estate Pinot Noir and rudely tasty offerings such as the Seared Duck River minute steak.

Kerri Greens

For lessons in viticulture, park yourself at Kerri Greens, where expertise is tempered with a contagiously familiar and friendly mode de vie. This boutique winery is run by young, talented wine makers who craft their drops completely preservative free and everything on site is organically grown from the pristine Mornington Peninsula land. You’ll feel completely at ease to freely explore a wealth of wines and beautiful scenery. Pack heavy, you might want to just move in.

Polperro

If you’re looking for a little romantic flair, look no further than the palpably charming Polperro in the charming Red Hill wine country. This spot is true jewel of the Mornington Peninsula and one of our ultimate favourite spots down the coast. In fact, we felt it absolutely mandatory to feature their deliciously vibrant, well-rounded and refreshing Even Keel 2017 Rosé in our Pretty Pinks pack. At Polperro, you can retreat to the on-site lake for an intimate moment of bliss and brie on a picnic rug with your girls or your lover. Peer over abundant vineyards and lap up antipasto-style cheese, lavosh and fruit jams sent to your hamper via express shipping from heaven itself. Polperro also houses a cosy place to stay for the weekend full of rustic and moody interiors. Booking immediately.

Point Leo Estate

Something that sets Point Leo Estate apart from the other Peninsula Wine Gods’ offerings is its almighty sculpture walk. After cradling an aromatic Pinot Gris, you can take some time out to marvel at the award-winning sculptural designs and soak up some sunshine. Undulating vineyards, lessons in wine lingo and a coastal breeze?

Rare  Hare

With a firm focus on cool-climate chardonnay and fragrant pinot noir, expect some of the most alluring single-vineyard wines on the Mornington Peninsula at Rare Hare. If you’re ravenous for a sweet fix, pair a cherry-laced rosé with an all-star cast of desserts. Think wood-fired choc-chip cookies and sensuous salted caramel parfait. Drooling yet? We are!

Whether it’s a week-long winery crawl or a lazy day spent on just one of the above vineyards, we hope our selection of Peninsula hotspots has given you a sudden craving for some chilled Savvy B and memorable summer adventures.
