The Best Holiday Ever is upon us: Galentine’s Day. It’s when you and a herd of your favourite females have a brilliant excuse to celebrate
We’re popping the lid on five fabulous ways to gallivant through G-Day this year with a glamorous, booze-fuelled long lunch.
Think romance sans candlelight and sans cringe, with good food, delicious drinks and even better company.
1. THE COCKTAILS
First things first, get the drinks free-flowing. Let corks fly and the good times roll with a few insatiable cocktail recipes using drops from our Sunday Wine Co wine packs. You’ll give any hot bartender in the area a serious run for their money.
When life gives you lemons, make Rosénade.
After all, Galentine’s Day calls for less roses and A LOT more rosé.
- 2/3 (160ml) cup Jericho Rosé from our Pretty Pinks Pack
- 1/3 (80ml) cup lemonade
- 1 tablespoon raspberry syrup or liqueur
Drizzle some raspberry syrup into the bottom of a glass and fill it 2/3 full with Jericho Rosé. Next, top the glass with the lemonade. And pssst – if you don’t have raspberry syrup handy, substitute this for fresh raspberries and a pinch of caster sugar.
Live La Dolce Vita with a Venetian
Stage your own Italian love affair with this sunset-hued cocktail. Now, that’s amore!
- Ice and a slice of orange
- 3 parts Sunday Wine Co Cuvée Sparkling, from our Things That Sparkle pack
- 2 parts Campari
- A splash of soda
In a wine glass with ice, combine the Campari, soda water and sparkling. Give it a stir and garnish with a fresh orange slice. Delicious.
2. THE SPREAD
For antipasto platters rife with creamy cheeses, peppered with olives and studded by fresh strawberries, outsource your cheese-board-making to the artists at I AM BOARD Melbourne, Platter Pantry or Platter To Plate.
To take it up a notch, hail in the cheese connoisseurs at Milk The Cow to cater for everything from cheese towers to incredible Cheesemonger’s Boards spanning lavosh and delicate edible flowers.
If canapés are what you’re searching for, Blake’s Feast have all the moreish salmon blinis and juicy scallops your heart could desire. Put your own menu together of beautiful morsels that can also be served in conjunction with ‘Bigger Bites’ for a larger group.
3. THE SCORE
For all the unforgettable classics, ballads, R&B grooves and eclectic mix of tunes, take on the role of DJ by hitting play on some of our personal favourite Spotify playlists. With the music curation already done for you, all that’s left to do is get the girls on their feet.
4. THE SPRUCING
Creating some DIY, personalised place cards for your table setting (if you’re going for a sit-down lunch) could be the perfect finishing touch. Play cupid with friends that haven’t met before and commingle your social circles to generate some new conversations. For a truly sweet rendition of a name card, summon the baking goddesses at Sweet Mickie for some heart-shaped cookies with your own little one-liner, message or quote. We suggest something like “You’re my type”, but try to get creative and tailor it to each guest.
5. PARTY FAVOURS
If you’re the guest rather than the hostess this G-Day, you could be the hottest date ever by pre-ordering some beautiful blooms from Daily Blooms to arrive the ‘morning of’. Maybe even gift them a heart-shaped, monogrammed memento like this from The Daily Edited. OR why not make her blush with our Pretty Pinks Pack? Consider this the dreamiest gift for the most beautiful of girlfriends, delivered to their door on the day.
Touted the ‘creator’ of Galentine’s Day, Parks & Rec’s Leslie Knope imparted a seriously important reminder about what hosting your girls this Feb 14 is all about: “ladies celebrating ladies…plus frittatas”. Go forth, get your cocktail-making down pat and throw a G-Day for the ages.
